new earth forming

The Sundhnúkagígar Volcano Iceland Collection is a curated series of volcano prints. Each meticulously crafted to capture the awe-inspiring beauty and raw power of one of Iceland’s most dramatic landscapes.

Each print is produced in the UK at a pioneering carbon-negative lab. Therefore, ensuring both exceptional quality and environmental responsibility.

This collection of volcano prints features stunning photographs that showcase the dynamic and often unpredictable nature of volcanoes. As well as highlighting the dramatic interplay of light, ash, and molten lava.

Above a volcanic eruption in Iceland….

Ever since studying geography at university, I have nurtured a lifelong dream to witness the raw power of a volcano firsthand. My fascination with the natural world led me to follow Icelandic volcanology and seismology closely. Delving into the intricate dance between earth’s fiery interior and the landscapes we see today.

The volatile beauty of volcanoes, particularly those that shape and define the rugged landscapes of Iceland, has always captivated me. Drawing me toward their raw beauty.

I had booked to travel to Iceland for my 40th birthday and a week before we set off this eruption started. As much as I was anticipating being able to fulfil a personal dream I was also deeply aware of the poignant reminder of the delicate balance between human communities and the forces of nature.

This eruption, fortunately north of the inhabited area of Grindavik, a small fishing town, highlighted the stark realities faced by those living in the shadow of such unpredictability.

The fragility of the relationship between people and planet

Since 10th November 2023, Grindavik has endured the brunt of ongoing earthquakes, land deformation, and eruptions. Events that underscore the vulnerability of human settlements in the face of nature’s power.

In my stories and photography, I often explore the impact of humans on nature, but here, the narrative was reversed, revealing how deeply humans are impacted by the very environment they inhabit.

This experience deepened my understanding and empathy towards those who live with the constant reminder of the earth’s power and that we are alive during the smallest of dots on the geological timeline to witness this!

I’m incredibly grateful to the amazing soul that is Rubina for capturing such incredible footage on her phone and for sharing it with me to share here too.

The video gives a little insight into the power of the eruption. As we circled above it, feeling the intensity of it’s heat building!

Big love!

Gratitude for a great experience.

These images wouldn’t have been possible without the absolute skill of the pilots at Reykjavik Helicopters. They were a joy to book and fly with. I felt so lucky to get a seat as it was such a busy time for bookings. The whole process was easy. Paying on arrival before we flew and they helped to make a lifelong dream of mine come true.
