Sometimes we have those days by the sea where it feels like you’re living on holiday. And I think it’s when you get unseasonable weather, and it’s suddenly warm, and we are in that lucky position that we can just walk to the beach and go and experience the beach and so, in knowing this day was coming, I had popped in some requests with the local council to be able to to fly my drone because I really wanted to capture this image of a beach with everybody with their bits out – with their bits out, that sounds good, doesn’t it? With, you know, the kind of bits and pieces around me, like towel out, brollies out, all those sorts of things.

And one of the things that I’ve loved about this image is the feedback I’ve got from people where initially they thought I was shooting something to highlight litter on the beach, because that’s a massive problem in, coast, erm it’s everywhere, isn’t it? But in coastal areas, people come have their day at the beach and then just get up and walk away and leave everything. I mean, we’re talking beach chairs, toys. It is, it’s absolutely ridiculous to see what is left behind on a beach and the disaster that that is for nature, because part of the problem we have here is the seagulls will then ransack all the bags.

So like, even if you’ve put a bag by a bin, not in a bin, then the seagulls will just ransack it and all that rubbish is going everywhere and the plastic is just going straight into the sea. So it was curious, I thought that when people looked at this image, that they thought it was litter, when in fact it was the creators of the litter and it was the people using the beach but I love the fact that it captures that free range, quintessential summer’s day, where everybody’s got their pitch on the beach and are just enjoying the fact that in early May it was in into the 30s, I think, for for the heat that day.
