journey to the wildest of edges….

An awe-inspiring adventure close to home…

Journeying to the wildest of edges often does not require traversing vast distances. Sometimes, it’s about exploring the liminal spaces just beneath the surface. This summer, I eagerly awaited the perfect alignment of conditions: low swell, minimal wind, and intense heat. These elements usually herald the blooming of phytoplankton and the arrival of jellyfish, transforming local seascapes like the Walpole Bay Tidal Pool into underwater wonderlands.

Over five dedicated snorkelling sessions across three days, I spent a total of 10 hours immersed in the vibrant life of this tidal pool. The water became my dreamscape. Each minute beneath the surface melted away as I dropped into hyperfocus. As the phytoplankton bloom, the water teems with life. Turning simple snorkelling trips into an enchanting exploration of our dynamic ecosystems.

This collection of jellyfish prints features the subtle yet stunning interplay of light and water. Highlighting the dynamic and often ethereal nature of the sea. Each image invites the viewer into a tranquil world where the rhythmic dance of the tides meets the celestial glow from the sky, reminding us of the gentle yet powerful presence of the ocean.

These sessions at Walpole Bay are not just about capturing images or observing marine biology; they are profoundly meditative. Feeling at one with the wild that exists close to home. They are a reminder that you don’t need to travel to the corners of the earth to find the wild. Sometimes, the greatest adventures and the most surreal experiences are just beneath the waves, at our very doorsteps.
