Description
There is a beach I call the Secret Beach in Ramsgate, and it’s not really a secret. It’s behind the brasserie and we all know it’s there, but I think it’s a secret because it’s not anything you can access by foot. It’s literally impossible to scramble down the rocks of the harbour on, and I don’t know whether actually there’s any way that you can access it from within the brasserie, like a, you know, one of their private entrances down to it.
So I call it a secret because the two times that I’ve been there, I’ve accessed it by my paddleboard. So I’ve gone in the East cliff and then I’ve paddleboarding along the coast, and then in onto the beach and, the first time I did it, we set off and it was one of the hottest days in July. Like, I don’t know, 35 degrees or something. And we set off at, approaching low tide. So there would be the most beach there.
So, of course, in doing that, we’re setting for the hottest part of the day. And we didn’t take any water. And so we got to this beach and then it was so like, we’re really thirsty, we’re actually quite hungry because it’s lunchtime and we could have brought a picnic and had a lovely time here, but instead we’ve got literally nothing. So we had to then paddle round to the main sands and go and get something to drink there. And then it was, you know, high tide was kind of time was changing. So that was over.
So I had then planned for the next time and taken my drone but again, I’d forgotten about taking food drink, making a day of it. But I was just really intrigued to see what it looked like from above. So, I popped the drone up and the light was incredible that day. And it was one of those days where the sea absolutely pops.
The colour is so vivid, and I haven’t done anything on this picture to over edit this. This is just how it looked from above that day. Sometimes those angles of the light on those summer times seas just look so incredible. And then there’s just this spot light coming down through the clouds on the secret beach there, and if you look close enough, you can actually see the paddleboards and the kayak and my friends and I, are all on that beach there. Just, yeah, soaking in the magic of being somewhere where it’s a completely quiet and desolate beach on what was a very, very busy day. For the rest of the coastline.
