Pegwell Bay is somewhere that I adore. I grew up living in Nethercourt which is just behind Pegwell Bay and spent so many summer days down there cycling with my cousins around the old hoverport. And, it’s somewhere that as I came back to Thanet after I’d lived away for 7 or 8 years, it’s somewhere that I just keep falling for each time I go a little bit more.

We don’t have much open space around Thanet, particularly around the coastline. Usually when you look, there’s always street lights, there’s always a building. And so I think Pegwell Bay is just so precious because it’s the first place you get to where there’s a bit of space and there’s less human clutter and interference on the landscape and on nature. And when we went for this walk, it was during the, the early 2020s era when, there wasn’t as much freedom around and I didn’t realise it was, a near on full moon that night, rising. And it was one of those nights where the dark part of that image, there’s quite a haze. So you didn’t see the moon rising early on.

I mean, that would have been something because the moon is still quite big in that picture. So it must have been approaching a super moon at that point and then the lapwings were flying around kind of coming into roost because it was just sunset moving into dusk. And they just flew across at the exact right kind of height where with the moon and then that, that lovely curve through, their natural undulation as they fly together, absolutely framed. I mean, so beautifully. And I just really love this image. It feels very peaceful, very serene, and draws my mind to a place of contentment and stillness. I just yeah, it’s very special. Pegwell and that’s how I think how I, I feel about being in that place.
