When I fly my drone, I love shooting birds eye views of things because one of the most incredible things to me about living within a coastal ecosystem like Thanet is how rapidly the coastline changes and how dynamic it is, and how one day there can be loads of sand on a beach and then a storm can happen, and then that sand is suddenly displaced and moved, and we’re back down to chalk reef and flint rock and nothing else on the beach.

And so one of the places that I find has a really, turbulent and ever changing dynamic, part of the coastline, I think is the Ramsgate Eastcliff and there’s a spit that goes out into the water, and sometimes it’s visible, sometimes it’s not, sometimes there’s sand, as I’ve said. And other times there cannot be.

And I shot it at, kind of low tide that was turning. And when I turn the camera down on the drone to do the sort of top down bird’s eye shot, I couldn’t believe what I was looking at because it looked like a bird. And I just loved the fact that I was shooting a bird’s eye shot and it was a bird that I was least expecting to see. And I find this is just such a cool, beautiful image with all of those organic textures. You can see some of the chalk sediment that’s got stirred up there in one of the waves where there’s, those kind of highlights with that white powder from the chalk.

And then you’ve got the, the depth of what’s on the bird’s body, with all of the algae, that is formed on all the flint rock there. And then just that clearer rock that looks like the bird’s beak with bill, it was just one of those really incredible things to see and I just love shooting from above, seeing the world and those textures and those abstracts in that way.
