Description
Solo Strategy by Rebecca Douglas Photography.
As this northern gannet slices into the sea, a silver halo of air clings to its feathers. A fleeting shimmer that’s soon released as bubbles. This glistening coat is caused by a thin layer of trapped air. Repelled by the bird’s densely packed waterproof feathers, and it’s one of the reasons gannets stay so streamlined underwater. They see their prey from above and spear through the ocean surface at speeds of around 60mph, transitioning from sky to sea in pursuit of food.
