The crater chain – Sundhnúkagígar Volcano Iceland

As we descended closer to the biggest of the craters, the intricate dynamics of the eruption became more apparent. The lava had begun to solidify on the surface, forming a fragile crust that was periodically broken as the levels rose and moved around within the craters. These fragments were then carried down the lava flow, creating a dramatic scene of molten rock and escaping gases. The intense heat and vibrant colours of the lava contrasted sharply with the dark, solidified fresh lava surface, highlighting the relentless power and beauty of volcanic activity.
