Description
Sea walnut – Westfjords
A mesmerising comb jelly, refracting the light through it’s cilia, tiny hair-like structures that move it through the water. It is an invasive species, in Iceland, native to the West Atlantic & transported by humans in the ballast of ships. It depletes zooplankton, affecting the food web & potentially leading to the decline of other populations.
Sjávarvalhnetur – Vestfirðir
Dulmagnaður hárfótarýki, sem brýtur ljósið í gegn um bifhárin sín, litlar hárkenndar griplur sem færa hana um vatnið. Hún er innflutt tegund á Íslandi, upprunnin í Vestur-Atlantshafi og flutt með skipum í kjölfar þeirra. Hún rýrir svif og hefur áhrif á fæðukeðjuna, sem getur leitt til hnignunar annarra stofna.
